About Nic
Dr Nicholas Keown (Doc Nic) is an AHPRA-registered psychologist with over 21 years of experience working in mental health, stress management and performance optimisation. He also holds postgraduate qualifications in integrative medicine and applies evidence-informed mind-body strategies within the scope of psychological practice.
Through the NEO Programs, Nic focuses on three key domains: stress resilience, restorative sleep, and performance psychology. His work integrates cognitive behavioural strategies, nervous system regulation techniques, neurofeedback, neural entrainment, breath regulation, and mental skills training to support:
- Reduction of chronic stress and burnout
- Improved sleep quality and recovery
- Enhanced focus, confidence and competitive performance
The NEO approach is grounded in psychological science and behavioural medicine principles. It draws on current research in performance psychology, psychophysiology, and sleep science to help individuals regulate arousal, optimise recovery, and perform at their best under pressure. Nic works with professionals, executives, athletes and high-functioning individuals who want structured, measurable strategies to improve mental clarity, emotional regulation and physiological recovery. All services are delivered within his registration as a psychologist and are designed to complement – not replace – medical care where required.
In addition to his clinical work and research endeavours, Nic has authored the thought-provoking report “Digging Deep for Better Health”, which sheds light on the negative impact of work practices in mining on the health of Western Australian workers. He has actively served on the Goldfield’s Men’s Health committee, advocating for the well-being of mine workers in the Goldfields region of Western Australia.
Born and raised in the South West region of Western Australia, Nic was the first in his family to attend university. After spending time in Perth and Bunbury for his education, he joined the Navy in 1981 and rejoined in 2012, during which he also served as a Navy Psychologist. In his personal life, Nic is a bodybuilder and an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys playing golf.
